Terms of Use

Last updated: October 13, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of cathonews.com, its pages, feeds and any related services (together, the “Service”), published by CathoNews (“CathoNews,” “we,” “us”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

CathoNews publishes news about the Catholic Church in the United States and around the world. The Service is free to read and does not require an account.

CathoNews is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or speaking for the Holy See, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, any diocese or any other Church institution. Nothing published on the Service is an official teaching of the Church or a statement on its behalf.

2. Personal use

You may read, print and share links to our articles for your personal, non-commercial use. You may quote brief excerpts of an article, with attribution to CathoNews and a link to the original article, for commentary, criticism, teaching or news reporting.

Our RSS feeds are provided so that readers can follow CathoNews in a feed reader. You may display the headlines and summaries they contain with a link back to the Service, but you may not republish the full content of our articles from them.

3. Intellectual property

The articles, headlines, summaries, images, logos, design and other content of the Service are owned by CathoNews or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. “CathoNews” and the CathoNews logo are our trademarks.

Except as allowed in section 2 or by law, you may not copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, modify or create derivative works from our content without our prior written permission.

4. Automated access and AI training

You may not use robots, scrapers or other automated means to collect content from the Service in bulk, other than search engines indexing it in accordance with our robots.txt file and feed readers retrieving our RSS feeds. You may not use our content to train, fine-tune or evaluate artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems, or to build a dataset, without our prior written permission.

5. Accuracy and corrections

We work to make our reporting accurate, and we correct errors when we find them. News changes quickly, however, and the Service is provided for general information. We do not guarantee that every article is complete, current or free of error, and an article reflects the information available when it was published.

Nothing on the Service is legal, medical, financial, canonical or spiritual advice. For guidance on your own situation, consult a qualified professional or your pastor.

6. Third-party content and links

The Service may contain links to other websites and embedded content from third parties, such as videos. We do not control and are not responsible for those websites or that content, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and policies.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service in any way that is unlawful, that infringes the rights of others, or that could disable, overload or impair the Service, including by attempting to gain unauthorized access to it or by interfering with its security.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR FREE OF ERRORS.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CATHONEWS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain of these limitations, so they may not apply to you.

10. Changes to the Service and to these Terms

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms; the date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. Your continued use of the Service after an update means that you accept the revised Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the State in which CathoNews is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
