Pope Leo XIV to Visit Five Rome Parishes This Advent
Visits begin November 27 at Sant'Andrea delle Fratte, coinciding with the feast of the Miraculous Medal.
The Vicariate of the Diocese of Rome announced on October 28 that Pope Leo XIV will resume pastoral visits to Rome’s parishes during Advent. The visits will follow the same pattern used in Lent 2025, with the Holy Father visiting one community in each of the five pastoral sectors of the Diocese of Rome.
The first visit is scheduled for November 27 at the parish of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte in central Rome, on the feast of the Miraculous Medal. The later stops are set for November 29 at San Carlo da Sezze in the south, December 6 at Sant’Eligio in the east, December 13 at Santa Lucia in the west, and December 20 at San Roberto Bellarmino in the north.
Afternoon Welcome, Meetings, and Mass
Each visit will take place in the afternoon. Cardinal Vicar Baldo Reina will welcome the Pope together with the auxiliary bishop of the sector and the pastor of the parish. The program then includes meetings with parish bodies, followed by the celebration of Mass.
Cardinal Reina stated that “through these parishes our whole diocese is celebrating.” He added that the visits will support the pastoral verification requested by the Pope at the diocesan assembly.
Joy Across the Five Sectors
Fr. Taras Yeher, vice-parish priest of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, described the November 27 visit on the feast of the Miraculous Medal as “a gift even greater from the Lord and the Virgin.” Pastors of the other four parishes expressed similar joy. They called the announced visits an unexpected gift, a magnificent welcome gift, and an occasion of ecclesial communion.
By returning to the parishes of his own diocese in Advent as he did in Lent, Pope Leo XIV renews a direct pastoral presence among the faithful of Rome in the season of preparation for the Nativity of the Lord.
