FOCUS Names Jonathan Reyes to Lead Campus Mission

Reyes succeeds founder Curtis Martin, who led the apostolate for 27 years serving more than 200 campuses.

FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, named Jonathan Reyes as its new chief executive officer on October 7. Reyes takes charge of one of the largest Catholic missionary organizations in the United States, succeeding founder Curtis Martin. Martin retired in December 2025 after 27 years leading the apostolate. Tim Thoman served as interim CEO in the months that followed.

The scale of the work Reyes inherits is considerable. FOCUS serves over 200 college campuses and nearly 40 parishes. More than 1,000 missionaries carry out its evangelization effort. The organization’s SEEK conference recently drew 26,000 participants, underscoring the reach of its campus outreach among students and young adults.

From Early FOCUS Leadership to National Catholic Posts

Reyes is returning to an organization he already knows from the inside. He served as FOCUS vice president of ministry and formation from 2004 to 2005. In the years that followed, he took on senior responsibilities elsewhere in the Church. He most recently served as senior vice president of communications for the Knights of Columbus. At the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, his roles included executive director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development.

That path—campus missionary leadership, communications for the Knights of Columbus, and service at the bishops’ conference—spans the fields of evangelization, Catholic higher education, and Church leadership that FOCUS cited in presenting him as CEO.

Chaput Hails Character and Fidelity to the Vision

Archbishop Emeritus Charles J. Chaput praised the appointment. He pointed to Reyes’ Christian character and to his knowledge of the founder’s vision. The endorsement comes as FOCUS moves past its founding era. Martin built the apostolate over 27 years; Reyes, who worked under that vision two decades ago and has since served the Church at a national level, is charged with carrying it forward.

On campuses and in parishes across the country, more than a thousand FOCUS missionaries will continue their work under new executive leadership. The October 7 announcement closes the interim period and opens the next chapter of Catholic campus mission in America.
